CubikMusik....digs in the archives(1)

I am not sure how many of our readers know about where CubikMusik began so here it is.
I started CubikMusik in 2002 after moving to the USA in Ireland. I wanted to keep track of what my friends around the world were listening to and vice-versa so CubikMusik began as a monthly email newsletter that had recommendations from friends in USA, Ireland, England, Australia, etc. We got up to over 1,000 subscribers just from word-of-mouth and I know that I for one was exposed to a lot of choice tunes. Eventually we made the natural transition into an MP3 blog. We don't have the same # of contributors anymore (busy lives happen) but I hope that we still turn people onto choice new music.
So-I have opened up the archives and will start posting the recommendations from the (approximately) 2 years of newsletters that we sent out. A lot of the recommendations were for albums but I will just post one song from the album here. I may edit the original posts if their is a timeline mentioned that is not applicable (5 years ago then is not the same as now and I don't like math!).
Enjoy and please do send feedback and if you want to recommend Musik that you feel is Cubik email me at cubikmusik@gmail.com.

Cheers,
Cubik

From Issue Three.

Artist: MoneyMark
Album: Push The Button

I first had this album as a promo years ago from none other than JC that writes for CubikMusik and I loved it. Unfortunately this album was lost for a while but I found it last week for $5 in a local store. Boy was I happy.
You may know of Money Mark from Beastie Boys fame. He was involved in some of their projects and to me I know him as one of the guest knob twiddlers on some of their tracks. I have another of his albums here that I don’t like half as much as this one. If you have heard Badly Drawn Boy (BDB) and you like him I think you’ll enjoy this album. Like BDB Money Mark uses a lot of quirky noises, sounds and affects to create some great layered tracks for us to enjoy. There are also some songs here that (pleasantly) reminded me of Elvis Costello- listen to #2 ‘Too Like You’ and #4 ‘Tomorrow Will Be Like Today’ and let me know what you think.
My favorite track? # 15 ‘Maybe I’m Dead’.
This is album, to me, is so refreshing. We need more artists like Money Mark (and Badly Drawn Boy and Tommy Guerrero!).  Do your best to get this one into your collection. If you are lucky enough you may even find it for $5.
