Got home from work tonight and read that Tony Wilson had died of a heart attack after a battle with kidney disease. What we would call a "shit buzz'.
Tony Wilson can justifiably be seen as the godfather of the 'Madchester' scene and sounds that was started by(amongst others) New Order (growing out of Joy Division) in the late 80's and led to such great bands as Happy Mondays, The Stone Roses while helping to foster an amazing cultural scene in Manchester (and beyond).
I remember when I was a young teenager and listening to New Order with my eldest brother K***H and being amazed by their sounds and then discovering and loving The Stone Roses with my brother D***D.
This was music hitting me big time.
So yes, its a f**king cliche to post Blue Monday by New Order, but it has got to be one the top 10 tunes around that changed/influenced musicla styles and is certainly one that helps define the (very large) footprint that Tony Wilson made on music and culture.
RIP sir-thanks for all the great sounds and top nights.
Cheers

There’s no doubt that the white iPhone 4 has a much better camera than the iPhone 3G and the iPhone 3Gs, and the new HDR functionality makes it even easier to get good results during hard lighting conditions.
