I have no idea what made me think of posting this video, or actually, what made me think of the video in the first place. I haven't seen it in years.
Perhaps it was after doing some packing of books this weekend when I came across the book 'Ten Imaginary Years' which is an excellent biography on The Cure. It was interesting to sit and flick through this book with the imagery so great between the big hair and the clips from Tim Pope's videos.
Yes, I had the big hair (backcombed birdnest that it was. my poor parents) and the black clothes. But, despite what some people claim, I never wore lipstick! Eyeliner maybe but certainly not lipstick!
So, back to the video.
Filmed at Théâtre antique d'Orange and released around 1987 it captures 23 songs from the 'Head On The Door'. This album, and Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me are my favourites. The two songs here are 'Close To Me' and 'Let's Go To bed'.
Buy at Amazon (US), Amazon (UK)
Check out The Guardian also for a good read on why The Cure are important.

ah the cure...
the cure can sound very dated these days but the 'mixed up' compilation is worth a spin now and then ... if you are prepared to have the melody from 'close to me' running around your head for a week.

I think smith blew it with 'kiss me kiss me kiss me' which had the songs to be one of that era's great albums but he stretched to too long to be a double.
I saw them on that tour...fuck its 20 years ago!... I seem to remember they used to push it to 3 and a half hour shows !
my 2 cent euro .... is that a bizillion dollars yet ?
