It has been a while since I posted some good broken beat stuff on here. I am still loving the sound of some great broken beats but have found that a lot of what is being produced can be quite 'samey' and so I spend a lot of time digging and buying but nothing is jumping out enough to make me wanna post it.
Over on Beyond Jazz every now and again some new producers post links to their work to ask for feedback. Sometime I have time to check stuff out but most of the time its hard. I think I'll spend more time doing it though as I know that there are gems out there that are yet to be discovered.
A few weeks ago Joe Leo from Sweden made such a request and so I checked him out and liked what I heard. There was something different about the sounds he was making. It wasn't just all electronic sounds tightly knit and intertwined with a broken beat foundation. There were other elements that had been added into the mix and manipulated that had caught my attention, especially on the tune below called 'No Solution'.
After emailed and asking if I could post the tune he sent me the tune today with some info. on himself that includes how he makes those added sounds-electric guitar, his voice, percussion and Abelton Live.
Much thanks to Joe for sharing both his sounds and the story behind them.
"Done music in different compositions and styles in more than ten years mostly in the closet. Now I'm working alone with percussions, guitar, bass and my voice all put together in the music wonder machine (my computer).
Started with music for ten years ago, played drums with friends in a experimental rock band that we had in a garage. The inspiration came from a mix of drugs and social criticism. After that, when i got a producing program on my computer i discovered music trough the computer, there i could by myself create my own music. At that time i started explore and got a more interest of electronic music. As a result of that we didn't have any good clubs located at Uppsala outside Stockholm, their i lived at that time. Me and some friends started "Decibel" a club there we played techno and house. And also played our own produced music. But the music scene for that kind of music at that time was stubborn in Sweden, so i put my music on the shelf.
When i started again was for three years ago, after a drunken period of working in bars at summer resorts i came back to Sweden and me and "Mr Florenso" a friend started a project called "Broken Helmets". There the inspiration came from different styles there all was melt together under a experimental beat. We got hooked up with a web based music company "Tokyo Dawn Records" there we was close to get on a compilation of some artist from the site. But the site went down and never came back.
So before we closed our project we got some of our music played at some clubs in Sweden and at web based radio stations round Europe.
Now i produce on my own, i work whit a electric guitar, percussions and my voice, all put together in "Live Ableton" a producer program.
My inspiration comes from all kind of music as funk and old rock music, there i pick some bits and then put it together under a raw and pumping beat."

By the way-if you do a search for TokyoDawnRecords you may find an archive of some files that were on the netlabel. Some good stuff there too. :)
